Discount chains like Lidl and Aldi have boosted their market share, which is putting pressure on the luxury British grocery store. Waitrose is still ranked top in an earlier Market Force Information survey on customer perceptions about seven supermarket chains. The survey was conducted with 4,300 people who rated supermarkets based on their assortment as well as layout and cleanliness.

Waitrose has taken several measures to safeguard customers and staff during the coronavirus outbreak. It is asking customers to send only one person to do the shopping and to wear an eye mask or scarf. In every shop there are hand sanitisers. Waitrose offers a Volunteer's Shopping Card for shoppers who are self-isolated that allows family and friends to collect their orders on their behalf.
